How often do you get to witness the birth of a brand new website? Well, if you’re reading this on August 21, 2013, you happen to be here on the day that my bright new shiny web site is going out into the world!

That probably also means that you know me. 🙂

So, why create yet “another” website? Isn’t there enough stuff to read on the web already? I guess I am creating this site for the same reason that parents bring yet another child into the world: it’s my baby, and I think it will have something to offer its readers.

Simply put, BigTravelNut™ talks about budget travel for women. This is what I know, and this is what I’m writing about. I’m going to preempt a question right now: “Why is this site only for women?” Well, actually, men can read BigTravelNut™. Your computer screen is not going to self-destruct if you do! In fact, a lot of the content will be helpful to men as well as women. But since I’m a woman and see the world from a woman’s point of view (which can mean a very different experience from men in some countries), I decided that I was going to write as if I am addressing a bunch of gals, emphasizing safety concerns, and women-related issues when appropriate.

However this is not going to be a girlie web site. I will not be talking about fashion and shopping very much, because I don’t know much on these topics. However there will be a fair amount of articles on food, and an emphasis on chocolate! I may occasionally write about relationships on the road from a woman’s perspective (so guys, you are warned). I will be talking mostly about gentle adventures and activities, and not so much about riding mountain bikes in the dirt. So, the lover of extreme sports may get a bit bored. However, if you want to learn how to travel independently, comfortably, and safely on a small budget, you’re in the right place! You can read more about it here.

This is also my chance to truly become a travel writer, a yearning I’ve had for many years. Until recently though, it wasn’t really a practical idea. Most travel writers do not earn very high incomes. A lot can’t even survive by travel writing alone. You have to be passionate about travel, and love to write. I’ve been a writer since I was 7, and I’ve wanted to travel since I was 11. I think this is really whom I’m meant to be.

I have already uploaded several articles and blog posts to the site, so I hope you’ll take a look around. Please, if you have a few minutes, let me know what you liked, and what you’d like to see more of. I will be adding new stuff every week, and will try to tweak it according to your feedback. This is all very new to me and I need your help so I don’t just write at random.

Also don’t forget to sign up for my newsletter in the big box on the right side of every page. I will only email you every other week with some unique content reserved for my dedicated readers. 🙂

Also, I currently have a designer creating this amazing “logo” for me. This is coming soon. Make sure you come back regularly so you don’t miss it!

BigTravelNut is going to be BIG!
